A search on the River Tay is continuing after a major late-night emergency operation was launched on Sunday. Police, a coastguard helicopter and lifeboats were called to the area around the Tay Road Bridge, after concerns were raised for a man. Locals reported hearing the helicopter arriving in the area at around 10pm on Sunday and it spent more than an hour flying above the water. Data from Flightradar24.com showed the aircraft travelling in a zig-zag pattern between the Tay Road Bridge and Buddon Ness. It then appeared to travel north to Aberdeen before returning in the early hours of Monday. The lifeboats from Broughty Ferry and Arbroath, and coastguard officials, also assisted in the search. However, nothing was found – and more activity is planned. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.30pm on Sunday, officers were called to the Tay Road Bridge, following concern for a man. “Searches were carried out and no one was traced at the time. “Further searches, assisted by the coastguard, will continue throughout today.” A Coastguard spokesperson said on Monday evening that no update was available as search operations continued throughout the day.
