A man has been pronounced dead after his body was recovered from the sea at Buckhaven.
Police were called to a report of a man in the water at Buckhaven Harbour at around 11.30am on Wednesday.
Kinghorn RNLI lifeboat was launched at around 11.40am to assist police in a search.
Body recovered from water
The man’s body was recovered from the water before lifeboat crews arrived.
Paramedics tended to the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witness William Hamilton, a member of Buckhaven Fishing Club, said two police vehicles were at the scene.
“I knew there was something very wrong as I saw the coastguard pass with the lights flashing as I was arriving at the yard,” he added.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a man in the water at Buckhaven Harbour around 11.35am on Wednesday September 15 2021.
“The man was recovered from the water but was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesperson for Kinghorn RNLI said: “Kinghorn RNLI lifeboat was tasked at 11.40am following a report of a person in the water at Buckhaven.
“The volunteer crew arrived at Buckhaven at noon, where the casualty had been recovered from the water and was being attended to by paramedics.
“The lifeboat was requested to undertake a search of the immediate area but nothing else was found.
“Once the coastguard established the full circumstances, the lifeboat was stood down around 12.20pm.”
