Part of Markinch has been taped off as police investigate an overnight incident which left one man in hospital with serious injuries.
Police say a 38-year-old was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries after allegedly being struck by a car in the Fife village overnight.
A second man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place shortly after midnight.
Streets remain taped off
Several streets near the Laurelbank Hotel in Markinch remain taped off as officers investigate, with locals reporting disruption on Wednesday morning.
A Police Scotland spokesman said a 35-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
No further information on the 38-year-olds man’s injuries was available.
Man rushed to hospital in Dundee
He said: “Officers were called to a report of a man struck by a car on Balbirnie Street in Markinch shortly after 12.35am on Wednesday, 13 October.
“The 38-year-old was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment to serious injuries.
“A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries are ongoing.”
