Broughty Ferry lifeboats were launched on Sunday to help search for a ‘very, very violent’ man who was reported missing in St Andrews.
It is thought that the man may have been carrying an axe when he went missing.
It is believed that the search was linked to an incident in the town earlier in the day where a woman was injured in what police described as a ‘serious assault.’
‘Weapon’ involved
It is further believed that a weapon, reportedly an axe, was used in the attack on the woman.
Her condition remains unknown at this stage.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and the streets around her home were sealed off by Police Scotland.
Search for missing violent man
Meanwhile both Broughty Ferry lifeboats, the all weather and the inshore, were launched just after 3.30pm on Sunday to join in the search for the man.
They were asked to help locate the man who was thought to be in the area of the shore in the Fife university town.
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “Both Broughty Ferry lifeboats were launched at 3.38pm to help locate what we were told was a ‘very, very violent missing man.
“The crews were asked to do a shoreline search as it was believed the missing male was in that area.”
The spokesman said that the crew of the lifeboats were told to act with caution.
It is understood the man was eventually located by Police Scotland.
