A one-man crimewave who stole thousands of pounds in a string of break-ins at charities and shops in St Andrews has been jailed for 20 months.
Kevin Ritchie targeted business premises over the course of 11 months – making off with a total of £7,254 in a total of 13 break-ins.
In one callous crime he targeted the town’s Cancer Research UK shop – making off with £560.70. Days earlier he stole £40 from the nearby Save the Children shop.
Ritchie, 38, of South Street, St Andrews, pleaded guilty on indictment to 13 charges of housebreaking dating back as far as April 2014.
Defence solicitor Douglas Williams said: “In a small area and small force it took out a significant amount of police time taken up investigating these matters.”
Sheriff Alastair Brown jailed Ritchie for 20 months.
