A section of the M90 in Fife was closed on Monday while police at the scene dealt with an incident.
It is understood officers were called to help a vulnerable woman on an overpass near Kingseat.
Police negotiators were brought in to speak to the woman, who was later taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with minor injuries.
Both northbound and southbound carriageways between Kelty and Halbeath were closed between 2.20pm and around 4pm, causing significant tailbacks.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife were called to the M90, just south of Kingseat, following a report of concern for a woman on the bridge at 2.10pm.
“This was brought to a safe conclusion and both carriageways were reopened around 4pm.”
