Anstruther Lifeboat was called to attend as a small yacht was run aground off the coast of Cellardyke.
Two weekend sailors out for a leisurely cruise found themselves on the rocks and the service was paged at 3.10pm on Saturday afternoon. The crew documented the rescue process it took to get the pair back on shore.
In a statement from RNLI Anstruther Lifeboat, helmsman Barry Gourlay recalled: “We arrived on scene promptly to find the two individuals well prepared with life jackets and a handheld VHF radio, which is what we at the RNLI recommend as the minimum equipment that should feature with all seafarers.
“In this instance the individuals were extremely unlucky to encounter engine difficulty when exiting the harbour which resulted in them finding themselves on the rocks,” Gourlay continues.
“Acting swiftly when arriving on scene, my experienced crew of George and Kevin split up to assess both the yacht and the guys on the rocks before freeing the boat and getting it under tow quickly.
Praising the diligence of his crew and good sense of the stranded, Gourlay concluded: “Their swift actions allowed us to get in and out of the shallow water and conclude quick and safely. I would like to commend the preparation of the individuals in having the appropriate life jackets and radio to raise the alarm and unfortunately in this instance it was bad luck that resulted in their situation yesterday.”
