A Fife golf course was closed at the weekend following the death of a player. It is understood the man took ill on the SRUC’s Elmwood golf course at Stratheden, near Cupar, some time on Sunday. The club later confirmed on its Facebook page that the player had sadly died, despite the best efforts of first aiders and medical crews. The course was closed for the remainder of the day as a mark of respect. It reopened on Monday morning. The club declined to comment on the incident and referred calls to Police Scotland. A police spokeswoman confirmed the man’s death had been due to a medical matter and that the force had no further involvement. Run by Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), Elmwood Golf course opened in 1998.
