Fife councillors have voted to introduce car parking charges on a Sunday – but only from 1pm.
The partial climbdown follows a host of objections to the controversial proposal, including from churches who feared all day charging would disadvantage their predominantly elderly congregations.
The Rev MaryAnn Rennie, minister at the historic Dunfermline Abbey Church, had predicted charging on a Sunday morning would cost each member of her congregation £100 per year.
She said she was delighted by Tuesday’s decision, adding: “It’s great news and makes life a whole lot easier for us.”
