The St Andrews woman at the centre of an ongoing murder probe was allegedly seriously assaulted by her boyfriend a week earlier.
Elizabeth Bowe, 50, died in Ninewells Hospital on Tuesday after being found at a flat in the town on Saturday night.
Her death is being treated as a murder by detectives.
Her brother, Charles Gordon, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court in the intervening period charged with her attempted murder and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm.
It has emerged her partner, Robert Cunningham, 51, of St Andrews, was arrested over an alleged earlier assault on Miss Bowe.
He appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday around two hours after she passed away.
Cunningham made no plea or declaration to charges of theft and assault to injury during a brief private appearance on petition.
He was fully committed for trial on the assault charge and released on bail pending further dates being set.
His bail included special conditions not to approach or contact Miss Bowe.
Cunningham had initially appeared in court last Monday, September 12, and was remanded in custody at the time her ultimately fatal injuries were inflicted.
Just 24 hours earlier Charles Gordon, Miss Bowe’s brother, appeared in private on petition in the same dock on an attempted murder charge.
He made no plea or declaration and had his case continued for further examination.
Gordon, 51, of St Andrews, was remanded in custody on charges of attempted murder and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
