A Fife fish and chip shop serves food fit for a king – and that’s official!
The owners of the award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar have revealed they were visited by King Carl Gustav of Sweden, who was on holiday in the area.
The 70-year-old monarch and his entourage are said to have enjoyed a traditional Scottish fish and chip lunch during their trip on Sunday.
This was followed by some ice cream outside in the October sunshine.
It was not the first time the popular chippie has been visited by royalty, having hosted Prince William while he was a student in St Andrews.
But as far as they are aware, owners Alison and Robert Smith had never before served chips to a king.
The couple said they were “extremely honoured and privileged” to have served the royal party with their haddock.
“We hope His Majesty enjoyed his visit to our beautiful part of Scotland,” they added.
The Smiths bought the fish bar for an undisclosed sum in 2003.
Since then they have won a host of awards, including UK Seafish Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in 2008-09, and as well as a king and a prince they have served a plethora of Hollywood royalty.
Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro and Robert Duvall are among the A-listers who have graced the East Neuk restaurant.
The latest visitor seemed to impress locals though, with one commenting on Facebook: “I hope the seagulls showed some respect.”
