Workplaces across Scotland are being rallied to help dying Fife toddler Ava Stark.
Marie, 33, has launched an urgent appeal for help after the three-year-old’s stem cell transplant was cancelled at the last minute.
In the 48 hours following the launch nearly 50,000 potential donors registered with charities who can help find a match.
Now blood cancer charity DKMS is asking organisations in Scotland to hold donor recruitment events in their workplaces.
Almost 50,000 people have registered as potential blood stem cell donors through its website alone after the terrible news that the person who was due to donate some of their blood stem cells was now unable to donate for medical reasons.
This was the second time that this has happened to the Lochgelly youngster who has inherited bone marrow failure and urgently needs a blood stem cell donation from a matching donor.
While thousands have registered online, DKMS said that some people prefer to register face to face and it is offering to work with organisations throughout Scotland where it can hold events which give employees the opportunity to register at their place of work.
Anyone between the age of 17 and 55 and in general good health can register as a donor.
Donor recruitment manager Ashlie Caddick said: “Although it is great that so many have registered to help Ava and all those in need of a lifesaving blood stem cell donation, it isn’t enough.
“We need many, many more people to register.”
