Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended and treated the woman at the scene.

She was taken to the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Hyundai was uninjured.

The road was temporarily closed while initial inquiries were conducted and was reopened around an hour later.

Officers are currently investigating and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
