A man seriously injured in Lochore was the victim of attempted murder, police have confirmed.
The 30-year-old, named locally as Scott Armstrong, staggered to the Co-op in Loch Leven Road after being attacked on Sunday afternoon.
It is understood he had been stabbed several times and members of the public alerted police after seeing him bleeding heavily in the street.
He was rushed to the Victoria Hospital, in Kirkcaldy, where he was now said to be in a stable condition.
Police believe two men may be responsible and are hunting a BMW and Ford Transit van spotted in the area.
Emergency services were scrambled to the town centre at around 4.30pm, shortly after the attack nearby in Loch Leven Gardens.
Detective Inspector Colin Robson, of Dunfermline CID, said: “We’re continuing to conduct extensive enquiries and I’d like to thank the local community for their help so far.
“I’d urge anyone who witnessed the attack and has not yet spoken to officers to contact us as soon as possible.
“We’re eager to trace a dark-coloured BMW car and a Ford Transit type van that were seen in the area around this time.
“Anyone who may have seen these vehicles, or who has any other information which can assist, is also asked to get in touch.”
Those with information are urged to contact Dunfermline CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
