A Kelty man who “disliked” work at Rosyth dockyard spiralled into selling ecstasy after taking on payday loan debt.
Unemployed Blair Rafferty has been put on a six-month restriction of liberty order after being caught with drugs he intended to sell in Dunfermline.
The 21-year-old, of Beechbank Crescent, admitted that on January 23 at Harlem, Bruce Street, he had in his possession a controlled drug with intent to supply it to others.
Depute fiscal Kiran Uppal previously told Dunfermline Sheriff Court: “The accused was seen acting suspiciously.
“A doorman asked him if he had anything he shouldn’t have and the accused produced an envelope containing 32 ecstasy pills valued at £320.
“He said he got them for his friend’s 21st birthday party.”
Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said his client was a first offender and had got himself into financial problems at the time of the offence.
He said his client’s family were far from impressed by his actions.
Mr Morrison said Rafferty himself was “ashamed and embarrassed”.
“He was employed at Rosyth Dockyard and was halfway through an apprenticeship.
“However, such was his dislike of the line of work that he left there.
“He went from having around £1,100 a month to zero and ended up with four payday loans,” added the solicitor.
He said his client and his friends were in the habit of buying drugs between them when they were going out.
“On this occasion he thought it would be a good idea to try to make money out of these pills among his friends.”
