Workers at Diageo’s massive bottling plant in Fife will walk out on strike in the run up to Christmas, it has been confirmed.
Union members have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action over “Scrooge” proposals to slash their pensions at a time when they say the company is making massive profits.
The drinks giant said it was disappointed at the result of the ballot but stated it had plans in place to ensure business continues as usual “as far as possible.”
A spokesman for Diageo said the company had been consulting with employees on a review of the final salary pension scheme since February.
He said discussions had been continuing and added: “This is clearly disappointing and, the company feels, premature whilst we were in ongoing discussions.”
