Emergency services were in the area of Clackmannanshire Bridge.

A major rescue operation took place in Fife on Tuesday after a person was feared to be in the Firth of Forth near Kincardine.

The fire service, police, ambulance service, Prestwick rescue helicopter, South Queensferry lifeboat and multiple coastguard crews were all called to the area.

Police confirmed they received the first call at 2.30pm reporting a concern for a person, with the coastguard confirming a potential person in the water.

However the coastguard later confirmed the incident was a false alarm and no one was in the water.

They said the person feared to be in trouble was later seen leaving in their car.

The South Queensferry lifeboat was launched at 2.46pm.

Police closed Kincardine Bridge in both directions just before 4.30pm. The bridge reopened an hour later at 5.30pm.

Clackmannanshire Bridge was initially closed but has since reopened.

Traffic was very heavy on either side of the river crossing, with vehicles being diverted through Kincardine on the Fife side.

A Police Scotland spokesperson: “Emergency services were in area of Clackmannanshire bridge following report of a concern for person at 2.30pm on Tuesday April 12.

“We have since been stood down.”
