St Andrews was full of smiles as the latest group of graduates received their degrees.
Students of sciences, mathematics, medicine, history and economics were just some of the hundreds to receive their degrees at ceremonies in the Younger Hall.
Dundonian Blair Fyffe, 23, was one of those celebrating after graduating with a Masters Degree in Software Engineering.
In addition, the former Harris Academy pupil was also honoured with a prize from the university for the best dissertation in Computer Science.
“It was all a bit surreal,” he told The Courier.
“I loved the whole experience though, and it was amazing to stand in the same place that Bob Dylan once did.”
The only Scottish person in his class, Blair said that he and his friends were intending to catch up at a celebration ball at the Old Course Hotel.
Also among those honoured was Sir Ewan Brown, the former senior governor of the university.
He was conferred an honorary Doctorate of Laws from new principal Sally Mapstone, in what was her first graduation ceremony since taking up her role earlier this week.
Sir Ewan held his post from 2007 until June of this year and his presentation came 53 years after he originally graduated from the institution with a Master of Arts.
In his laureation address, Professor James Naismith hailed Sir Ewan as one of the country’s foremost voices in the financial sector, adding: “Ewan has been what I can only describe as a workhorse to the university.
“He joined court, the governing body, in 2006 becoming the Senior Governor shortly afterward — a post he held until his retirement from court in June this year.
“Ewan chaired the panel that attracted Principal Louise Richardson to St Andrews and together they formed a formidable partnership.
“They drove the hugely successful 600th celebrations that saw our global reputation begin to catch up with the reality of our excellence.”
