A probe into the deaths of two foxes on farmland in Cardenden has ruled out foul play, the Scottish SPCA has confirmed.
The Courier revealed how residents had been concerned about suspicious activity late at night and claimed illegal hunting might be going on in the area after the bodies of two foxes were discovered shot and partially skinned.
An SSPCA inspector has now confirmed: “We take all reports of this nature very seriously but in this case a post mortem showed that the foxes had been shot legally, most likely with the landowner’s permission.
“We have made Police Scotland aware of this. Anyone concerned about the welfare of an animal should contact our helpline on 03000 999 999.”
