Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a stolen dump truck was driven through the wall of a Kirkcaldy supermarket.
Officers investigating the incident are continuing to hunt the driver of the vehicle, who is said to have repeatedly driven into the side of the Co-op store on Lauder Road in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police are understood to be examining CCTV footage from the store and the surrounding area as part of the ongoing investigation, which shocked townsfolk.
It has not yet been determined whether the incident was an attempt to steal a cash machine located on the side of the premises, while it has not been disclosed whether any property was stolen from within the shop itself.
One eyewitness claimed to have seen a masked man in his twenties fleeing the scene in the aftermath of the incident, having watched him drive the dump truck into the shop several times.
Despite bringing down the side of the building, the driver fled the scene in the direction of the Fife Society for the Blind building, just metres away.
It has since emerged that the truck, used in what many believe to be a botched raid, was stolen from a business in the nearby Hayfield Industrial Estate.
Meanwhile, the shop was sealed up yesterday, with the Co-op admitting that the store sustained “extensive damage” in the incident.
Graeme Dursley of Kirkcaldy CID said: “I’d urge anyone who may have been in the area of Hayfield Industrial Estate or Lauder Road in the early hours of the morning to get in touch.
“If you saw any suspicious behaviour or may have witnessed the truck travelling between these two locations, then please come forward.”
