A 29-year-old woman who played for a Fife rugby club lost her life in an early morning crash on Sunday.
Sharon Smith, from Glasgow, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2.30am accident on the A985 near High Valleyfield.
Miss Smith played with Kirkcaldy Ladies Rugby Team last year.
A tribute on the club’s Facebook page said her death was a “true loss” and described her as a “friend to all”.
It said: “It is with great sadness to be writing this. One of our team passed away early this morning after a road traffic collision.
“Sharon Smith that played her first season with us last year and was hoping to again this season.
“This is a true loss, as she was a fantastic team mate and friend to all.
“She will be greatly missed. Thoughts are with her family at this time.”
She was alone at the time of the collision and no other vehicle was involved.
The main road between Cairneyhill and Kincardine was closed for several hours as police launched an investigation.
Sergeant James Henry of Fife Division’s road policing unit said: “This is a tragic incident where a young woman has lost her life and our thoughts are with her family at this time.”
“We are investigating this collision and I would ask anyone who was on A985 in the early hours of Sunday or has any information, to please get in touch with us immediately.”
