Police are hunting for a driver who left the scene after a car crashed into the Standing Stone Circle sculptures in Glenrothes.
Officers discovered the vehicle abandoned on the Coul Roundabout – at the junction with B969 Western Avenue and Pitcairn Avenue – at around 7.45am on Friday.
At least three of the fibreglass sculptures have been damaged or knocked over.
One eyewitness told The Courier he saw a man emptying the boot of the vehicle at around 6am shortly after the crash occurred.
Police investigating the incident say they are still trying to trace the driver, who was not a the scene in Balfarg when officers arrived.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a one-vehicle crash on Coul Roundabout, Glenrothes at around 7.45am on Friday.
“Inquiries are continuing.”
The damaged sculpture is one of more than 170 public artworks that exist across Glenrothes.
The Standing Stone Circle was created by Glenrothes town artist Malcolm Robertson in 1984.
