Four people needed medical attention after escaping from a house fire in Leven late on Saturday evening.
Three fire crews, two from Glenrothes and one from Methil station, tackled the blaze at a house behind Mountfleurie Primary School in Christie Avenue.
The alarm was raised by a quick-thinking neighbour shortly after 11.30pm.
Firefighters tackled a blaze on the ground floor and outside wall of a two-storey house.
Neighbour raised the alarm
The resident, who asked not to be named, told The Courier she was about to go to bed when she heard a “crackling” sound.
She said: “I was getting ready to go to bed when I could hear a strange crackling sort of sound coming from outside.
“I looked out of the bedroom window to see smoke coming from the house so phoned the fire brigade immediately.
“Thankfully both the parents and the children got out of the house, as I could see them standing outside moments later.
Three fire crews scrambled
“Fire crews arrived quickly and got straight to work to put the fire out.
“I’m just so thankful that nobody was seriously injured. On another occasion we could be talking about victims.”
Another Christie Avenue resident said: “I was locking up for the evening when I saw the blue lights flashing.
“I opened my front door and it was a complete shock to see police and fire engines along the street.
“The firefighters seemed to stop the fire pretty quickly.”
Initial emergency service reports suggested six people had required hospital treatment but police later confirmed paramedics attended to four of the six occupants at the scene.
Family escaped the property
Their condition is understood not to be serious.
Unable to re-enter the property, they were cared for by a neighbour until the early hours.
