A Fife woman who was left fighting for her life following a fire which killed her boyfriend has now managed to speak to detectives investigating the blaze.
Radio journalist Rebecca Williams, 24, who is better known as Bex, was deemed well enough to speak to police at her bedside for the first time after the incident which claimed the life of her partner Cameron Logan, 23, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Officers say the fire at Mr Logan’s family home in Achray Place, Milngavie, was started deliberately, and officers hope Bex will be able to provide them with some clues about what happened.
Bex, whose family home is in Wormit, had been left in a critical condition, but doctors at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow say her condition has improved significantly over the last few days.
A police spokeswoman confirmed: “We can confirm we have now spoken to Rebecca.”
Mr Logan’s parents David and Cathy, who are both 54, were treated for smoke inhalation following the fire, which also killed the family dog Gomez, but they were later discharged from hospital.
They have been in close contact with police officers every day since the blaze, while Mr Logan’s brother Blair, 26, who was not in the house at the time of the fire, has also been questioned.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Livingstone has renewed his appeal for witnesses after officers spoke to 45 motorists and 10 pedestrians during a “stop and speak” operation in the area at the weekend.
“We are still looking to trace a number of people who have either been captured on CCTV or reported to have been seen in the area on New Year’s morning, including the man and the woman who were jogging together on Craigton Road,” he said.
“We are also still looking to speak to a man seen in the Craigton Wood area around the time of the fire walking a brown pitbull-type dog.
“It’s crucial that we speak to these people seen on CCTV as they may have seen something important, even unwittingly, that could really help with this investigation.”
Bex, who attended Madras College in St Andrews and graduated with a degree in multimedia journalism at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2014, has worked as a broadcast journalist with Global Radio, which owns the likes of Capital, Heart, Smooth and LBC, for just over two-and-a-half years.
