Emergency services tackled a fire that spread from a garden to a garage in Dalgety Bay.
Four fire appliances attended the house at The Wynd in the Fife town.
Residents raised the alarm after smoke was seen coming from the rear of a bungalow shortly before 4pm.
The fire is thought to have started in the garden area before spreading to the garage of the single-storey property.
Ladders on the roof
Four fire appliances, two from Dunfermline station and two from Lochgelly, were mobilised and on arrival found the fire to have spread to an adjoining garage.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing firefighters using ladders to climb on to the roof and were spotted removing roof tiles on the garage a short time later in a bid to stop the blaze spreading to an adjoining property.
Fire service crews were further hampered with debris from the fire blowing into several adjoining gardens causing a further fire in a garden several doors down.
One resident told The Courier how neighbours rushed to help.
Billowing smoke
He said: “It all developed very quickly indeed.
“Smoke was billowing up from the back of the property and there was a loud, audible crackling sound.
“Several neighbours were banging on the doors and windows of the two adjoining houses to raise the alarm.
“Others were directing cars away from the scene as the fire engines and the police arrived.
“It was pretty scary to witness and everyone is just thankful no one seems to have been injured.”
Praise for emergency services
Another resident praised the speed in which emergency services arrived on the scene.
He said: “The smoke was really thick, billowing into the sky, but all credit to the firefighters who got straight to work.
“There was a fear that the blaze was spreading to adjoining properties because of debris blowing across the gardens.
“A second fire broke out but that was quickly dealt with by officers.”
Police Scotland set up a roadblock as efforts to extinguish the blaze continued with residents unable to access properties in The Wynd.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We were alerted at 3.40pm to reports of a fire at The Wynd in Dalgety Bay.
“Operations control sent four fire appliances. The roof of two single storey properties was on fire.
“There are no reported casualties.”
SFRS left the scene at 5.46pm.
