Fife Council has launched a new campaign in Rosyth asking dog owners to “Just bin it”.
A number of dog fouling hot spots have been identified throughout the town and the council will be using lamppost signs, banners and social media to raise awareness and encourage people to clean up after their pets.
Safer community officers will also increase patrols in these areas, issuing fines to anyone not cleaning up after their dog.
Environment spokesman John Wincott: “We know the majority of residents take a real pride in their area but we’re targeting a small group of people who act irresponsibly and we’re asking them to ‘Just bin it’.”
Safer Communities chairwoman Margaret Kennedy, who fully supports the campaign, added: “Any resident survey we carry out always highlights dog fouling as a major problem.
“Last year a number of teams across the council came together and created our safer communities team.
“We now have over 30 officers working throughout Fife tackling anti-social behaviour including dog fouling.”
South west Fife area chairman Bobby Clelland said he was pleased to see the campaign coming to the area as a number of complaints about dog fouling were received every year.
Fifers affected by dog fouling can report it to the council by emailing safercommunities.officers@fife.gov.uk or calling 03451 550022.
