A man who threatened staff and demanded money during an attempted robbery at a Glenrothes shop walked away empty handed.
Locals reported a large police presence in the Woodside area of the Fife town on Sunday evening.
Police were called to Barclays News on Woodside Way at around 7.50pm after reports a man had threatened staff and demanded money during an attempted robbery.
No arrests have been made, however it is understood police are following a positive line of inquiry.
A nearby resident told The Courier they became concerned after seeing around four police vehicles in the area.
The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s usually quite quiet on a Sunday night so we knew something had happened.
“I hope everyone is okay.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 7.50pm on Sunday police were called to an attempted robbery at a shop on Woodside Way, Glenrothes, in which a man threatened staff and demanded money.
