A car crashed into the side of a house in Rosyth before catching fire.
Police sealed off a stretch of the Fife town’s Queensferry Road for several hours following the collision.
Medics from the Scottish Ambulance Service were called to the scene alongside firefighters who extinguished the vehicle blaze.
Local residents described hearing a “shocking” noise before the car went on fire.
A Police Scotland spokesman told The Courier: “We were made aware of a crash involving a single car which struck a building at the junction of Burney Place and Queensferry Road in Roysth and subsequently caught fire at around 11.40am on Tuesday.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Services said they were called to the scene at around 11:46am.
A spokesperson said: “Operations Control mobilised five appliances and special resources to the scene to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.”
Car on fire after crashing into Rosyth house
“One man has been treated at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service and emergency services remain at the scene.”
The burnt-out car was in the garden of a property on the corner of Queensferry Road and Burney Place.
One witness saw the vehicle as it hit a van coming out of Burney Place.
He said: “There was an almighty bang and as I looked up I saw the red car smashing into the electric box and through the hedge into the garden.
‘Shocking’ bang
“The noise of the impact was the most shocking thing, it was frightening.
“It could have been so much worse – they are both very lucky not to have been injured.”
Local resident Pawel Kunysz who lives just two doors away said he heard a loud bang.
“It was like an explosion so I came outside and saw the debris and car in the garden.
“The driver was still inside the vehicle. I ushered him away from the car and he sat on my front step.
“It was a few minutes later that I noticed flames coming from under the car. Within a minute the car just went and was engulfed in flames.”
Another Rosyth resident, who asked not to be named, described how she ran to stop traffic seconds after the crash before coming to the aid of the elderly resident of the house that was struck.
“She was shocked by what had happened but was ok. I just wanted to get her out of the house before the car went up in flames.”
