Police have launched a manhunt after a vicious attack on a shopworker in Windygates.
A 30-year-old woman sustained serious head injuries after the brutal assault at the Village Shop in Station Road.
Officers are now trying to track down a man described as being of Asian appearance and in his early thirties with thinning hair.
At the time of the assault the suspect was wearing a black bomber jacket and black trousers.
The incident happened at around 6pm on Friday.
The man entered the shop and waited for other members of the public to leave before attacking the woman with a weapon.
It is understood that robbery was not a motive in the attack and nothing was taken from the shop.
The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
Detective Inspector Paul Dick of Police Scotland’s Fife Division said: “We are currently investigating this vicious attack and are eager to trace the man responsible as soon as possible.
“I would appeal to those who may have been either within the Village Shop or in the immediate area near to the time of the attack to come forward as they may have seen the man entering the premises or loitering about in the area around the time of the incident.
“I would urge anyone who has information, including those using public transport in the wider Fife area on Friday, February 3, to get in touch with police immediately.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
