Fire crews spent eight hours on Tuesday night fighting a blaze at a fish and chip shop in Pittenweem which has left one person injured.
Pictures from the scene showed flames bursting from the property on the high street of the Fife village.
Firefighters left the scene at 2am on Wednesday morning after first being called shortly before 6pm on Tuesday.
Four fire engines and a high rise appliance were mobilised to the incident.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one casualty was reported, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
A statement from the fish bar said: “There is simply no words to describe how devastated we are as our family business was destroyed by fire last night.
“Thankfully all our staff made it out safely and we would like to thank the emergency services, Pittenweem Surgery, and the local community for their assistance.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews are no longer in attendance.
“The last crews left the scene at 2am and we have extinguished the fire.
“We will reattend this morning to doubly check the fire has been extinguished”.
The chip shops in the area popular with locals and tourists travelling to the East Neuk of Fife.
Locals reported seeing smoke from as far away as Leven, with one witness telling The Courier the fire had been “fierce”.
He said: “The firefighters were here very quickly but the flames were fierce. You could really feel the heat from the other side of the high street.”
