A 26-year-old woman has died in a road crash in north-east Fife.
The incident happened on the A914 at Pickletillum, near Drumoig, and three other people were injured.
The road was closed while investigations were carried out but has since reopened.
Two-vehicle crash
The woman was the driver of a red Ford Focus, one of two vehicles involved in the smash reported to police at 3.50pm on Monday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Those injured were travelling in a blue Jaguar I-Pace and later taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.
Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Police appeal
Sgt Steve Livesey, Tayside Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the female driver.
“The road remains closed to allow officers to investigate.
“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, or has relevant dash cam footage, to please get in touch.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland by calling 101 and quoting reference 2262 of Monday, 26 September, 2022.
Emergency services, including three fire appliances, raced to the scene close to Drumoig Golf Centre.
The road was closed at St Michaels, with motorists being asked to find another route.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they remained at the scene for around two-and-half hours, before leaving around 6.30pm.
One motorist said: “I was driving towards St Andrews and I saw the officer with the road closed sign.
“He was directing people on the one of the country roads on the right.
“All the back roads around there are quite busy because of the diversion.
“I couldn’t see exactly what had happened but there seemed to be a few officers going about.
“There were firefighters too and at least one fire engine.”
