Hundreds of people lined the streets of Dunfermline as King Charles III carried out his first official engagement since the late Queen’s funeral.
The crowd stretched along the bottom of the High Street, into Bridge Street and the Kingsgate.
Among them was 59-year-old Gillian Steedman and her husband Robert.
For Gillian, who lives in Dunfermline, it was the second time she had stood on the city’s streets waiting to see a British monarch.
As a child, she was among the crowd who cheered the King’s mother Queen Elizabeth II when she visited in 1972.
And she was delighted to be back 50 years later to see King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.
“I loved the Queen,” she said.
“I’m here today because I wanted to show support for her son. They work so hard.
“He’s just lost his mum and I lost my own mum last year.”
Gillian was nine when the Queen came to town to celebrate the 900th anniversary of Dunfermline Abbey.
She stood outside the King Malcolm Hotel, where the Queen and Prince Philip enjoyed a civic lunch.
‘I’d rather meet the King than Robbie Williams’
Also among Monday’s crowd was Nicola Wallace, from Dunfermline.
She shook the King’s hand as he engaged in a walkabout after an official ceremony in the City Chambers.
By that point, she had been waiting for almost three hours.
“It was definitely worth it,” she said.
“I’m a royal fan and I stood at the motorway to see the Queen’s cortege passing through.
“I also saw the procession on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
“Today was a brilliant experience. I’d rather meet the King than Robbie Williams any day.”
