Two GP surgeries in Fife are being forced to run an emergencies-only service due to staff shortages.
North Glen Medical Practice in Glenrothes and Burntisland Medical Group are both only seeing emergency cases on Tuesday.
This arrangement will remain in place at North Glen throughout the rest of the week.
Burntisland will operate a reduced service on Wednesday.
‘Unprecedented pressures’ on Fife GP surgeries
A statement from NHS Fife said:Â “The NHS is currently experiencing unprecedented pressures.
“GP practices in Fife have been facing rising demand for services alongside growing numbers of registered patients and the continued effect of the Covid pandemic.”
Addressing the reduced services at North Glen and Burntisland, it added:Â “These practices are still open and scheduling face-to-face appointments, however appointments are being prioritised for those with a more urgent need.
“Where appropriate, please consider using pharmacy, optician, or other community services.”
It comes after NHS Fife warned on Monday that its A&E service was “very busy” and urged people not to attend unless they had an emergency.
