A Fife gran who died suddenly this month has helped improve three lives with her last wish to donate her organs.
Mhari Millar, who lived with relatives in Thornton, died from a bleed on the brain in the early hours of October 2 at the age of 64.
The mother of two and grandmother of five was described as “one in a million” by her close family.
Following her wish to have her organs donated, Mhari has helped change the lives of three people so far.
Her son-in-law Mario Caira said: “It’s fantastic – it might encourage other people to donate as well.”
Thanks for organ donation
In a letter from the Donor Family Care Service, the family is thanked for the generous donation.
It details the three people Mhari’s organ donations have helped, including one man who has waited two years for a kidney.
The letter reads: “It is my privilege to share with you that as a result of Mhari’s truly selfless act of generosity, three people have received an organ transplant.
“A gentleman in his fifties who had been on the recipient waiting list for over two years received a kidney transplant.
“A gentleman in his sixties who had been on the recipient waiting list for over one year also received a life changing kidney transplant.
“A young gentleman in his twenties who had been on the recipient waiting list for several months also received a liver transplant.
“Mhari was also able to donate her eye tissue. Unlike organs, tissues are able to be stored for a period of time before being matched and allocated to suitable recipients.
“I sincerely hope that this information brings you comfort in the months and years ahead and that you feel proud of the difference your mum, Mhari, had made through her precious gift of donation.”
