A Stagecoach spokeswoman confirmed the incident forced a vehicle to be withdrawn from service.
She said: “We can confirm that an incident occurred this morning involving one of our vehicles.
“A pheasant flew into the path of the vehicle and collided with the windscreen, causing it to crack.
“This resulted in the vehicle being withdrawn from service.”
Drivers shortages also forced the firm to announce the cancellation of a host of other Fife services.
This includes busses due to run between Glenrothes and Glasgow as well as the 1.55pm service between St Andrews and Glenrothes.
