A man was taken to hospital after being rescued from a serious house fire in Cardenden.
Firefighters pulled the man to safety after the blaze broke out in the two-
storey property in Station Road on Monday.
The injured man was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A full-scale emergency response was scrambled after the alarm was raised at 2.25pm involving four pumps, an aerial ladder platform, fire investigators, police, three ambulances and a special operations response team.
Station Road was closed to traffic as firefighters from Lochgelly and Kirkcaldy used water jets to tackle the flames which destroyed the roof of the building.
The fire was eventually brought under control and crews remained at the scene well into the evening, damping down and checking for hotspots.
One witness said: “Apparently the guy’s chimney blew up and collapsed his roof.
“He was badly burned but I hope he’s okay.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 2.26pm today to attend an incident at an address on Station Road, Cardenden.
“We dispatched three ambulances, two managers and our special operations response team to the scene.
“One patient was taken to the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.”
A police spokesman described the blaze as “a serious house fire”.
He said: “One man has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in the fire.
“Inquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances.”
A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said 20 firefighters were involved in the operation.
A cordon was put up and the fire saw a crowd of people watching the rescue operation unfolding.
