A Fife man bought alcohol for a young girl who became so drunk she waded into deep water at a notorious Fife quarry.
William Cameron supplied a large quantity of drink for two girls aged 15 and 16.
One of the intoxicated girls became suicidal and walked into the water Prestonhill Quarry, Inverkeithing, where other youngsters have drowned.
Cameron, 44, of Fraser Avenue, Inverkeithing, was jailed for nine months at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He previously admitted buying alcohol for the girls at Shad Super Store, Fraser Avenue, on July 6 last year.
Depute fiscal Claire Bremner previously told the court the girls had gone to the quarry to drink the alcohol.
She said: “One of them became very drunk and began feeling suicidal.
“She walked into the water up to her neck.”
A friend got her out and an ambulance took her to hospital.
Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said of his client buying alcohol for the girls: “It was a particularly stupid offence.”
Sheriff Charles MacNair said that following an earlier child neglect offence Cameron had been given the opportunity to be of good behaviour.
Cameron had admitted neglecting two children, keeping them in a filthy condition and exposing them to insecure controlled drugs and insecure weapons in Fraser Avenue on February 5 2015.
Sheriff MacNair told him: “Having regard to your record this was placing a significant amount of trust in you for you to be of good behaviour.
“You weren’t and provided alcohol to two girls, one of whom became so drunk that she went into an extremely dangerous area of water.”
Cameron had been given early release and was sent back to prison to serve the rest of that sentence as well as more jail time for his latest offences.
He was jailed for a total of 277 days.
Prestonhill Quarry claimed the lives of two 18-year-olds in just 10 months.
Cameron Lancaster died there in August 2014 and John McKay drowned in June 2015.
Action was taken to try to prevent the area being used by youths to congregate.
