Revised plans for a new playpark at Lochore Meadows in Fife have been revealed.

The proposals had to be changed after the original plans were scrapped due to spiralling costs.

The new park, revealed by Fife Council, would be able to accommodate up to 200 children at a time.

It would be on a new site at Lochore Meadows Country Park — known as the Meedies — meaning the old one would remain in use during construction. The site of the old park would then be redeveloped into a “nature play area”.

Original plans, launched in 2021, were pushed back after the cost came in significantly over the £750,000 budget.

New Lochore Meadows playpark ‘remains a priority’

Sarah Roxburgh, community manager for the Cowdenbeath area, confirmed the new plans will be more cost effective.

She said: “An initial proposal to remove and rebuild a playpark on its current site unfortunately came in significantly over budget, mainly due to costly groundworks.

“Replacing the ageing play equipment remains a priority.

“This new proposal, which could be delivered on budget thanks to its new nearby location that doesn’t require the same ground preparation work, would still deliver a large playpark with accessible features.”

Public to have their say

The council have urged anyone to wants to have their say on the proposals to get involved.

The public can attend a drop-in session at the park’s Willie Clarke visitor centre on November 23, between 2pm and 6pm, to ask questions.

An online consultation has also been launched and is open for public comments until December 16.

Free workshop sessions, which can be booked online, have also been arranged on the first Friday and Saturday of December for people to have their say.

Ms Roxburgh added: “”As Fife’s most visited outdoor attraction we know there is no shortage of people who could give us valuable feedback, ideas and inspiration.

“I’d urge everyone who knows and loves the Meedies to get involved in a way that suits them.”
