Fire crews were scrambled on Monday afternoon after a bus burst into flames on a Fife road.
Four appliances were mobilised to the scene by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service following reports of a bus on fire on the B981 road between Crossgates and Inverkeithing.
A number of eyewitnesses report seeing a bus “completely on fire” with emergency services in attendance.
Others reported seeing thick black smoke from the blaze several miles away in Duloch and nearby Dalgety Bay.
One motorist said he saw plumes of thick black smoke coming from the vehicle a short time after flames had engulfed the vehicle.
Police closed the road to all traffic as the the emergency services continued at the scene.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received an alert at 2.34pm of a vehicle on fire on the B981 close to Crossgates.
“Crews have been despatched from Dunfermline, Lochgelly, Burntisland and Kirkcaldy stations to deal with the incident.
In a later update, the spokesperson added: “Four crews were called to tackle the vehicle fire which on arrival was found to be a bus full alight.
“The fire was extinguished with the stop announced at 4.10pm.
“All four fire appliances were returned to their respective stations a short time later.
“It’s thought no one was injured in the incident.”
A spokesperson for the bus owner, Stagecoach East Scotland, said, “We can confirm that there was an incident involving one of our vehicles earlier today.
“There were no passengers or driver on board at the time, and no injuries occurred.
“Safety is our number one priority and we will be investigating the incident.”
The B891 between Crossgates and Inverkeithing, Dunfermline, is currently closed due to a bus on fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 2.40pm we were called to a report of a bus on fire on the B981 between Crossgates and Inverkeithing.
“Officers closed the road to all traffic for over two hours with motorists diverted away from the immediate area.”
