Christmas came to Kirkcaldy on Friday as the town celebrated its first proper lights switch-on in three years.

Santa joined a bagpipe ensemble to lead a festive lantern parade along the High Street.

And scores of children carried specially-made lights from The Mercat to the Kirk Wynd junction.

Excitement grew as stars of this year’s Kirkcaldy panto Ya Wee Sleeping Beauty II led a countdown before the big switch-on.

Members of Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society added to the fun with a round of Christmas carols.

And local singer Billy Reekie and choir The Songbirds also entertained.

Shops were open late on Friday to allow for a spot of Christmas shopping and later, the Merchant’s Cafe hosted an outdoor screening of Home Alone.

The event followed the switch-on of the Christmas lights at Kirkcaldy’s Mercat centre last Saturday.
