Police in Fife are investigating after a cannabis farm was found following a fire in a former shop Dunfermline city centre.
Officers wearing forensics suits were seen entering the vacant business premises on Queen Anne Street on Monday morning.
It came after a blaze in the building – a former stationery shop – on Sunday afternoon.
Four fire engines and a high-rise appliance were required to tackle the flames, with a number of roads in the city centre closed off as a result.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “An investigation is under way following the discovery of a cannabis cultivation site on Queen Anne Street, Dunfermline.
“Police were notified around 1.05pm on Sunday when a fire broke out at the property.
“The fire was dealt with by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). Police remain at the scene and inquiries are ongoing.”
A SFRS spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.50pm of reports of a fire at a building in Queen Anne Street.
“We sent appliances there from Dunfermline, Lochgelly and Burntisland. There was also a high reach appliance.”
The fire is one of several in vacant business premises where a cannabis farm has been found, including the former WH Smith store in Kirkcaldy.
In Cowdenbeath, a “significant” cultivation was discovered during a blaze above an empty high street shop in September.
