Construction work has begun on a new railway station in Fife.

The station at Cameron Bridge is one of two being built as part of the £116 million Levenmouth Rail Link project.

The new Cameron Bridge station will include two platforms, disabled access, 125 parking spaces, EV charging points and cycle storage.

Tommy McPake, Network Rail project manager for the Levenmouth Rail Link said: “While work is progressing well on track elements of the new line, the stations will be the gateway to the rail network for local people and it is great to get work moving on what will be the public facing elements of the project.

“In the coming months, the community will see a lot of work happening, and quickly as the project gathers momentum and starts to build towards the opening of the line.”

Station expected to take 10 months to build

Cameron Bridge station is expected to take 10 months to build.

It is expected it will open in spring 2024 along with the rest of the rail link.

The station will connect to Methilhill via a new bridge over the river to the south.

Artist’s impressions have been released showing how the Leven station shelter could look, but the final designs are still to be confirmed as Fife Council considers a planning application.

There was a mixed reaction from locals when the plans went on display in October.

One estate agent previously branded the designs as “glorified bothies“.
