Fly-tippers have been branded “shameful” after they dumped piles of builders’ waste at a Glenrothes roundabout.
Sheets of plasterboard, a broken bathroom sink, rubble and other rubbish has been left at the junction of Glover Road and James Watt Avenue, at the entrance to Westfield trading estate.
Broken glass has also been tipped at the scene.
It is thought to have been dumped over the weekend.
The fly-tipping is near an area that was recently cleared in preparation for new housing being built.
Residents have hit out at those responsible.
Kirsty Lambert, who lives nearby, told The Courier:Â “It’s absolutely disgusting to have just tipped that at the side of the road.
“These people need to have a long, hard look at themselves.
“There is no need for this sort of thing as we have a tip right here in Glenrothes.
“It’s shameful and I really think more should be done to catch those responsible.”
‘Whoever did this has no respect for the town’
Another resident, who does not wish to be named, says this volume of fly-tipping is the worst he has ever seen in the area.
He said: “It’s pretty shocking as there’s just so much of it, probably two or even three lorry loads.
“Whoever did this clearly doesn’t have any respect for the town.
“I walk here most days and the rubbish wasn’t here on Friday so it must have been dumped over the weekend.”
This latest incident of illegal dumping comes just weeks after large amounts of similar builders’ waste was fly-tipped just a few miles across town in Southfield.
Dawn Jamieson, Fife Council’s safer communities service manager, said:Â “We’re aware of the issue at Glover Road and we’ll take swift action to clear the area.
“Where evidence allows, we will consider what action can be taken against whoever is responsible.
Locals urged to use recycling centres
“There’s no excuse for fly-tipping, which is a blatant disregard of the law and of our outdoor environment.
“No one wants to see rubbish dumped, and it has a direct impact on the condition of our roads, parks, wildlife and communities.
“Our recycling centres are open, and we would urge people to make use of these facilities and dispose of recyclable waste responsibly.
“Please also check that anyone you ask to take your waste away is properly registered to do so.
“Businesses have a legal duty to dispose of their waste responsibly.”
