A man whose body was discovered off the Kirkcaldy coastline last week did not die in suspicious circumstances, police believe.
Officers have filed a report to the procurator fiscal service after the body of a 39-year-old was spotted floating in the water off Pathhead Sands.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene shortly after 11am on Friday after visitors to the popular dog walking spot raised the alarm.
The beach was cleared and a cordon established by police at around 11.30am, with coastguard crews from Aberdeen called to perform a recovery operation.
The man has since been identified and police said on Tuesday that while the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, it seems there are no suspicious circumstances.
A statement from Police Scotland said: “Police in Fife were called to the Pathhead Sands area of Kirkcaldy at 11.25am on Friday April 28.
“The HM Coastguard Aberdeen sadly recovered the body of a 39-year-old man.
“His death is currently being treated as unexplained, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.
“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
