Fife’s Conservative leader Dave Dempsey swept to victory in what has been an excellent day for his party in the region.
He expected to retain his seat but said he was overwhelmed by the size of his majority.
And he declared himself even happier for fellow candidates who have taken seats in previous Labour heartlands against all the odds.
Veteran SNP councillor Alice McGarry is another familiar face returned to the ward where she is joined for the first time by another SNP councillor, David Barratt.
Mrs McGarry said both candidates had tried their best to focus on local issues during the campaign but found residents wanted to engage on issues such as Scottish independence and Brexit.
Priorities, she said, include getting a new Inverkeithing High School.
“Before there were four different points of view but now we have two SNP and we will work as a team,” she said.
The fourth councillor for the ward is Fife Council’s current depute leader Lesley Laird, who is the Labour councillor for the area.
