The funeral of a former Tayside pensioner who was killed in a skydiving accident over Thailand will be held next month.
James McConnell, 69, was jumping with friends in the resort town of Pattaya when he landed in a reservoir on Thursday, May 4.
The Thai Sky Adventures skydiving centre said at the time that Mr McConnell, formerly from Forfar, may have suffered a heart attack as he left the plane.
Friends and relatives of Mr McConnell will gather to say goodbye at a ceremony at Dalnottar Crematorium Chapel, Clydebank, on Friday, June 2.
The family has asked for donations for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.
Mr McConnell, who was living in Thailand, was an experienced sky-diver who had been jumping for decades.
Speaking after the tragedy, Mr McConnell’s sister Maria Hawkins said: “They say it could have been a heart attack but we just don’t know. He was never ill.
“He was always getting medicals and had to be a certain weight. They wouldn’t let you jump if there was something wrong.”
She added: “James loved skydiving. It was his life. And Thailand was his new home – the land of smiles.”
A spokesman for the adventure centre said at the time that people ran to the skydiver within three to four minutes and carried out CPR, but he said they believe he was not breathing when he landed in the reservoir.
