Details of how St Andrews’ new secondary school could take shape at Langlands are to be revealed on Thursday.
Information about the proposed replacement for Madras College will be presented at a series of consultation events.
At the first at the school’s Kilrymont Road building, details will emerge of the 18-acre site west of the University of St Andrews playing fields and the proposed £50 million school.
Fife Council intends to submit a planning application in September, 18 months after consent for a school at Pipeland was quashed by Court of Session judges.
A spokesperson for the local authority urged members of the public to attend the drop-in sessions, so their views can be taken into account as the proposal is developed.
Design details outlined last week by the consortium behind the St Andrews West development showed the school would probably consist of a single building no higher than 15 metres.
It is anticipated it will have two all-weather sports pitches, a coach park, staff car parking, green space and playground space.
The school would be accessed from a proposed new link road from the A91, construction of which would be conducted to allow the school build to start later in 2018. Pedestrian access would be created from Buchanan Gardens and the core path.
If construction at the Langlands site is approved, the new school will sit within the St Andrews West development zone.
Purchase of the land from the university would involve an exchange for the school’s current South Street building.
Thursday’s event at Kilrymont Road will be followed by a session at Tayport Primary School on Friday. Both will run from 2pm to 8pm.
Further consultation will be conducted at Kilrymont Road on August 23 and Tayport Primary School on August 24, again from 2pm to 8pm.
Representatives from the council will be on hand to answer questions and leaflets will be provided for comments.
