Family and friends of a talented footballer who died suddenly at the weekend have spoken of their grief.
Liam McOmish, 21, was a midfielder for Crossgates Primrose Junior Football Club, having joined the side at the age of 17.
His heartbroken mother Angela was among those who paid tribute to him online.
She posted a photograph of Liam, of Dunfermline, on Facebook, with the words: “Our precious baby.”
Kevan McArthur, secretary of Crossgates Primrose, said Liam’s team-mates were devastated by the news of his tragic death.
He told The Courier: “It came right out of the blue. He was at our dance the week before and we were all laughing and joking.
“I have known Liam since he was 17, when we signed him from a local youth club.
“He was a well liked guy in the community and the players are all devastated.
“He had everything to live for, he had a great job and he had a great future.
“He was due to come in to speak to the management about a new contract with us.”
Kevan said club members were keen to create a memorial to Liam, a linesman for ScottishPower, which could be a trophy in his name.
Former Dunfermline High School pupil Liam joined Crossgates Primrose from Hillfield Swifts and played almost five seasons with the side.
Distraught friends and fellow players spoke on social media of their sadness.
Team-mate Liam Forbes wrote on Twitter: “Rest in peace Liam…You were a friend, a team mate and the best half of the 2 Liams! Sleep tight wee guy.”
David Clark wrote: “Absolutely devastating news. Truly one of the good guys! Absolute pleasure to have known you, and to call you a friend. Rip wee man.”
Adam Kerr posted: “Still in shock at the news, Liam, you’ll be sadly missed but never forgotten by many, keep kicking the ball up there kid!”
Opponents Carnoustie Panmure Fooball Club expressed condolences, with the message: “Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Crossgates Primrose’s Liam McOmish who passed away at the weekend.”
