A Glenrothes trampoline park has shut down indefinitely – leaving its owners “utterly devastated”.
Xtreme Trampoline Park has been asked to leave its premises at Saltire Retail Park to make way for a Poundstretcher.
The Courier reported in February how landlords for the park had lodged plans with Fife Council to move Poundstretcher from its existing unit into the one occupied by the trampoline park.
At the time, bosses said they were unaware of the move and vowed to keep trading as normal.
But in an update issued on Thursday, they have admitted the original story was correct.
Xtreme only discovered Poundstretcher plans in The Courier
The statement, posted on Facebook, said: “To our horror and utter devastation, the arrangements for our premises to be inhabited by another company had been orchestrated without our knowledge or consent since February 2022.
“Xtreme owners were only made aware of any possible issues with the premeditated plans when The Courier declared this a couple of weeks ago.
“Due to complications during Covid lockdown, with unforeseen contract changes, we cannot guarantee the future of our position at this address.
“Words cannot describe how devastated we are, and we genuinely believed the story in The Courier was a mistake as we truly believed there was no possible way this could be the case, having had no courtesy of communications from anyone involved.
“We were wrong. Our customers are now and have always been our main priority.
“We need each and every one of you to know we would have given as much notice as possible of anything happening to our park had we any insight to the plans being made.”
The firm is now urging anyone who has bookings to contact them to discuss refunds.
The statement added: “We are uncertain of what lies ahead but for now we are closed indefinitely and will keep everyone updated with the progress.”
Fans ‘gutted’ at loss of trampoline park
Fans have expressed their sadness at the loss of Xtreme Trampoline Park.
One said: “Devastated is an understatement. Hope it can be resolved quickly or you can find a new venue.”
Another posted: “This is so sad, (I’m) gutted.”
Others described the news as “brutal” and awful”.
Poundstretcher currently occupies the old Focus DIY store – just across the road from Xtreme – which it has operated from for nearly a decade.
The planning application is expected to come before Fife Council later this year.
The Courier is attempting to contact the landlords and Poundstretcher for comment.
