A teenager was shot in the legs as he walked through a Dunfermline beauty spot.
The 14-year-old required medical treatment to have the airgun pellets removed following the incident at the Calais Woods.
The youngster had been walking through the woodland at around 6pm last Tuesday when he briefly spoke to two men who were using air rifles to shoot at tin cans.
Whilst walking away following the exchange, he was then hit on both legs, with his injuries requiring medical attention.
Police are now seeking the two men as they investigate the incident.
The first male is white, approximately 5ft 10ins, stocky in his 30’s with short dark hair and a short greying beard. He was said to be wearing a camouflage jacket with the hood up and a dark jacket.
The second male is white, approximately 5ft 10ins, early 20’s and wearing camouflage clothing.
Police officers are calling on anybody with information, or who may have been in the area at that time, to come forward.
The incident follows a recent clampdown on the inappropriate use of air weapons, including the introduction of a new licensing system for owners at the end of last year.
The law dictates that all holders of a Firearm Certificate must demonstrate “good reason” for possessing weapons, such as being a member of a shooting club or having permission to shoot on land such as farms.
Anybody with information regarding last week’s incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
